Post PAX East Child’s Play Charity Auction

On Friday night I made this post and at the end of it I told you that I was going to collect a few items while I was at PAX so that I could run a charity auction for Child’s Play Charity. As luck would have it, on Saturday, there was a panel at PAX East on how to run your own Child’s Play fundraiser and I was able to talk to Kristin Lyndsay. I told Kristin what I was doing and she thought it sounded like a great idea. So, with Kristin’s “blessing”,  I went for everything I could get my hands (don’t worry I observed Wheaton’s Law) and let me tell you, I am very happy with what I was able to walk away from PAX with.

I went to Boston with a goal in mind and I am happy to say that I accomplished that goal! I had a lot of help getting there though, most notably from Chris Tulach, Wizards of the Coast and Ken, Kingston Tech. I want to thank you two very much and I look forward to seeing/talking to you again in the future.

I was also able to talk Epidiah Ravachol, an indie game developer who donated two of his games:The first one was co-created with Emily Care, Dread House and the second game Time and Temp. This guy is seriously cool, you should go to twitter and follow him. Go ahead, right now, I’ll wait.

Of course I can’t forget to mention that I was able to finagle a few special item from Steve Jackson (www.SJgames.com) and Jerry Holkins “Tycho Brahe” (www.PennyArcade.com).

Hello from PAX!

Hello my favorite reader,

My first day of PAX is over and I have to say that I had a great time! I came here to play some games, win a few prizes and hopefully meet some fun, new people. So far I’ve played the games and met the people but I have to win some prizes still. I played Zombie Dice and Cthulu Dice with the guys at @SJGames and I’m 95% sure that I’m going to buy them tomorrow. Normally I would wait until I got home and place an order with my distributor and just take one for myself when it came in but I doin’t want to wait that long. Those are fun games!

After all of my running around today I found a nice, quiet, comfortable place to sit down and relax up on level 2. It turned out to be a great idea because I got to meet Chip (@CaptinChaos) from www.theBteampodcast.com. He was interviewing someone about the new Deus Ex game coming out in August, you should definately listen to their podcast tomorrow. They just might be mentioning WeXogo on it.

Which brings me to my next topic here. One of the goals of my weekend in PAX this year is to gather some swag, signatures, and pictures and next week I will be auctioning them all off on Ebay. 100% of the sales will go to Childsplaycharty.org. I already have my first item, a set of chessex dice that I was able to get Jerry Holkins to sign. On top of that I was told to come back to the Steve Jackson Games booth Sunday to talk to the man himself.

Create an Encounter Contest: Winner

Last week we issued an open challenge to all RPG players riding on the information superhighway to send us their home made encounters. It didn’t matter what edition or what system was used, just make it original and let us list it for everyone to use. To our surprise a lot of you answered that call!

As a result we spent many hours this weekend creating characters and running them through a good amount of the submissions. Spiders were crushed, Giants were felled, Wights were wronged and Heroes perished in glorious combat.

Through all of the battles and bloodshed one encounter withstood everything that was thrown at it. While we ulitimately ended up choosing that one encoutner, titled “Giant Encounter”, it doesn’t mean that the rest of them weren’t excelent as well. We just had certain criteria that we wanted met for this contest and could only choose one.

Now, please congratulate Fred Gold. He is a History Major at Washington State University and will be graduating this year. So, ya know, if anyone has an opening for a History Major in their organization you should let Fred know. (Seriously though, I know one of you has to work at a museum.)
