How to Suck Less as a GM: New Players
The third iteration of the series on becoming a competent GM (here are parts one and two) deals with introducing new players to your game. The idea is quite simple, but the execution is often where other GMs fail. Everytime a new player enters the game, they can’t just come running out of the forest (I’ve been this guy) or found in a jail cell (done this) or wander into the party on the road they just happen to be traveling at the same time (done this too). There are wide variety of tools that every good GM uses, but little concensus on what tools are best. What further differentiates GMs is the analog/digital divide, which has caused a signicant uproar across the Internet and beyond when it comes to what is sacred in regards to RPGs. Continue reading
